There were three new entries, eleven climbers, twenty songs going down and six non movers on this weeks chart. The first of those non movers came at the top with Owl City spending a second week at number one with 'Fireflies'. Their closest rival this week was 'Don't Stop Believin'' by the Glee Cast which climbed one place to no.2, spending its third week on the chart.

Iyaz dropped a place to no.3 with 'Replay' while 3OH!3 featuring Katy Perry stayed the same at no.4 with 'Starstrukk'. 'Riverside (Let's Go)' by Sidney Samson featuring Wizard Sleeve was a non mover at no.5 and JLS climbed four places to no.6 with 'One Shot'. Alicia Keys went up eight to no.7 with 'Empire State Of Mind Part II' and Journey fell one to no.8 with their original version of 'Don't Stop Believin''. Example dropped three to no.9 with 'Won't Come Quietly' and Jay-Z featuring Mr Hudson climbed three to no.10 with 'Young Forever'.

There were a further three climbers and one new entry in what remained of the top twenty. N-Dubz featuring Mr Hudson climbed two to no.14 with 'Playing With Fire' while Jay Sean featuring Sean Paul & Lil Jon went up eight to no.15 with 'Do You Remember'. Timbaland featuring Katy Perry became a new entry at no.17 with 'If We Ever Meet Again' and Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys went back up three to no.18 with 'Empire State Of Mind'.

There were four climbers and two new entries in the lower half of the chart. Black Eyed Peas went up two to no.22 with 'Meet Me Halfway' while Alicia Keys went back up nine to no.23 with 'Doesn't Mean Anything'. Rihanna went up one to no.24 with 'Russian Roulette' and also got a new entry at no.28 with 'Rude Boy'. Pitbull featuring Akon went up seven to no.33 with 'Shut It Down' while Young Money featuring Lloyd got a new entry at no.40 with 'Bedrock'.

Over the years there have been no shortage of novelty acts whose star have burned brightly if only for a short space of time.  The advent of the TV talent show has increased the flow of such acts with the Cheeky Girls famously making the top ten on three occasions while Chico took 'Chico Time' all the way to the top. This year the spotlight has undoubtedly been on Irish twins John and Edward, or Jedward as the press has dubbed them.  This week sees them release their debut single 'Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)' which has been brought forward due to the Haiti Relief single which looks set to dominate the charts in February. It comes complete with a guest appearance from rapper Vanilla Ice who hasn't troubled the charts much over the past decade.  It looks certain to top this weeks chart!

'Hollywood' is the new single by the hotly tipped Marina & The Diamonds who recently finished second behind Ellie Goulding in BBC's Sound Of 2010 poll. The single comes released on CD and 7" vinyl, with the CD carrying the Single Version and the Gonzales Remix while the vinyl comes backed with the new track 'Bad Kidz'.  It's the follow up to the excellent 'Mowgli's Road' which got a limited edition release last year, and it precedes the release of her debut album 'The Family Jewels'. Marina undertakes her own headlining tour in February kicking off in Norwich and concluding two weeks later in Shepherds Bush, London.  This is a great pop tune and should open her up to a wider audience.

Cherri V featuring Wiley release their new single 'School Daze' this week.  It comes released on a CD format packed with new mixes of the track including the Thin Red Man Mix, the Greg Stainer Remix, the Fr3e Remix, the Kami K Asian Remix, the Chilli Chunky House Remix, the Delerious Remix and the Swindle Soulful House Mix. Wiley is well known in the UK and has already enjoyed top twenty success this year with his Chew Fu collaboration 'Take That' while Cherri V remains a relative newcomer to the UK public. Wiley is no stranger to collaborations having previously worked with Daniel Merriweather, Emeli Sande and Manga.  This should secure him another hit next weekend.

The Victorian English Gentlemans Club released their new single 'Bored In Belgium' this week. It comes released on a 7" vinyl format which also features the additional tracks 'Bored To Death In Belgium', 'The Woodsmen' and a live version of 'The Parrot' recorded at XFM. It's taken from their current album 'Love On An Oil Rig' and is the follow up to their last single 'Watching The Burglars'.  This week sees them play a gig at The Cavern Club in Exeter, closely followed by dates in Leeds and Bath early in February. They made their debut in 2006 with their limited edition single 'The Tales Of Hermit Mark / My Son Spells Backwards' and since then they have gone from strength to strength with their later release 'Impossible Sightings Over Shelton' making the Indie top ten.  This could give them a minor hit next weekend.

'Neon'' is the latest in the A-Z series of releases by Northern Ireland rockers Ash. It's the follow up to 'Space Shot' which made some progress in terms of airplay but the bands hard work is still not paying off in terms of chart placings.  The Wedding Present famously notched up twelve top forty hits in one year with a month set of 7" vinyl releases but the boys have yet to get anywhere near the top forty and have more often than not missed out on the top 100. The band are back out on the road this Spring and concerts are now one of any bands major income streams.  Regardless of chart success I hope they can keep on going as I for one am a massive fan of their output, both old and new.

Corinne Bailey Rae has been away from the music scene for a while following the tragic death of her husband a couple of years ago but is now thankfully back with a new album entitled 'The Sea'.  This week sees the release of 'I'd Do It All Again' which is the first single to be taken from it. Her no.2 hit 'Put Your Records On' remains her biggest hit though both 'Trouble Sleeping' and 'Like A Star' went on to make top forty appearances. She already has two Grammy's to her name along with two MOBO awards, a MOJO and a Q Award. As such the stakes are high for her follow up release but on this showing her fans have nothing to worry about as this maintains the standards set by her self titled debut release.

'Ocean And A Rock' is the latest single from the highly rated Lisa Hannigan.  She originally came to public attention when she was the backing singer with Damien Rice on his 'O' and '9' albums.  She also received a credit on their duet 'Unplayed Piano' which became a top thirty hit back in Summer 2005. They have since parted company and she is now a solo artist in her own right and her debut album 'Sea Sew' has been critically acclaimed and was nominated for this years Mercury Music Prize and the Meteor Music 'Album Of The Year' award. This doesn't have a physical release scheduled in, and so I think this will struggle to make any inroads into the top forty.

'Caesar' is the debut single from I Blame Coco and it features Swedish singer Robyn on both guest vocals and in the accompanying promotional video. The single has received airplay from the likes of Nick Grimshaw and Jo Whiley while it has also been used as the soundtrack to Premiership goals on Sky's Soccer Am.  It is released on a limited edition 10" single which also features the Miike Snow remix of the main track alongside the demo of 'Ritalin'. She is due to play low key gigs in London's Notting Hill and Bristol this week but also has further London dates planned for later in the month. I Blame Coco is destined for big things in 2010 and this could well become her first proper hit.

'Heartkiller' is the new single from Finnish rock band HIM. It's the first single to be taken from their new album 'Screamworks : Love In Theory And Practice' and it has already made the top ten in their homeland. They first appeared on the chart in 2003 with 'The Funeral Of Hearts' which made no.15 but their biggest hit remains their cover of Neil Diamond's 'Solitary Man' which peaked at no.9. They have notched up six top forty hits with their last coming four years ago with 'Killing Loneliness'. They are currently on tour in Australia but have a series of UK dates scheduled in for March starting in Norwich and concluding in Nottingham.  They have a grown an established fanbase over the years and I fully expect to see this in the top forty.

Kate Walsh releases her new single '1000 Bees' this week and it is lifted from her current album 'Light & Dark'. She graduated from the Brighton Institute of Modern Music and released her first album 'Clocktower Park' in 2003. It was produced by Lee Russell and was named after a meeting place in her home town of Burnham-on-Crouch in Essex.  'Tim's House' was her second long player and was released in 2007.  It featured perhaps her best known song 'Your Song' which also featured in the film 'Angus Thongs & Perfect Snogging'. It also hit the headlines for being top of the download album chart, keeping off more established acts like Take That and Kaiser Chiefs in the process. Then finally came 'Light & Dark' in August last year.  This may gain some airplay for her but is unlikely to be a chart hit.

Also released this week are 'Sweet Harmony' by Danny Byrd featuring Liquid, 'Wile Out' by DJ Zinc featuring Ms Dynamite and 'One Life Stand' by Hot Chip.  Download only releases this week include 'Oh Africa' by Akon featuring Keri Hilson, 'Run' by Basia Bulat, '1000 Bees' by Kate Walsh, 'How Low' by Ludacris, 'Anything' by Mirrorkicks, 'Who Am I' by Nick Jonas & The Administration, 'What Would You Do' by Scarlet Fever and 'Skeletons' by Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Love them or hate them the smart money has to be on Jedward featuring Vanilla Ice to top the charts next weekend. Don't forget to stop by next week when artists releasing new singles look set to include Calvin Harris, Sade, Seasick Steve and Taylor Swift.  Until then have yourself a good week.
